Individual Tuition
York Music Centre offers 15 or 30 minute individual lessons, mainly to beginners, to help them progress to a level where they are able to start playing in groups. Playing in groups has a significant effect on progress and the social aspect can help motivate young people to keep going. (see tuition fees)
Instrument Loan Scheme
There is the opportunity to try a variety of instruments before choosing which one to learn and tutors are able to advise pupils and parents. There is a wide range of instruments available for hire at very reasonable rates.
Other Costs
In addition to the cost of lessons and instrument hire, there may be a need for parents to purchase music. As pupils progress there is also an opportunity for them to be entered for external exams (Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music or Trinity College) and again this will incur an additional cost. Tutors will advise parents on these matters well in advance.
Progress Reports
All pupils will receive a report at the end of each term highlighting attendance, progress and effort.
