One membership, a connected journey

Young musicians can develop skills, rehearse with others and work towards shared performances. The Centre connects beginner experiences to more advanced ensembles and York Youth Orchestra.

Tuition and instruments

Individual tuition and affordable instrument hire are available alongside ensemble activity, subject to availability. Bursary support helps ensure cost does not become an unnecessary barrier.

Friends of York Music Centre

The Friends of York Music Centre support our musical community and help enrich the experience of young musicians and their families. Their support includes buying tickets for York Symphony Orchestra concerts, giving our families the opportunity to hear a high-quality orchestra in performance each term.

Music during the school holidays

We partner with Yorchestra, whose holiday music-making activities complement York Music Centre's term-time programme. Young musicians can continue playing, meet other musicians and enjoy further orchestral experiences during the holidays. These activities are organised by Yorchestra; visit their website for current opportunities and booking details.

Forthcoming

Saturday ABRSM examinations

We have been working with ABRSM to bring Saturday morning examinations to York Music Centre at Millthorpe School. These will be open to candidates from across the city and beyond, regardless of who teaches them or whether they attend York Music Centre.

The initiative will complement ABRSM's existing weekday examinations at Friends Meeting House. Dates and booking details will follow.
