Thanks to the support of the Friends of York Music Centre, we’re able to offer Music Centre families the chance to experience the thrill of a live symphony orchestra – often for the first time.

We’re proud to partner with the York Symphony Orchestra (YSO) to make this possible. Each year, the Friends raise funds to cover the cost of tickets so that families can attend selected concerts free of charge. In return, we simply ask that, where possible, adults are accompanied by children – helping to inspire the next generation of musicians and music-lovers.

These are formal concerts in professional venues, so children should be old enough to sit quietly and enjoy the music. Occasionally, YSO also offer open rehearsals in the afternoon for those who prefer a more relaxed introduction to the orchestra.
